The DOS AND DON'Ts of Convertible Car Seats

The safety convertible car seats is among the most crucial and vital factors that every concerned parent must know and understand well to keep their little kids safe every time they go on travels.

To avoid making mistakes when shopping for convertible car seats 2017, there are some dos and don’ts you have to keep in mind not only to save money and time but more importantly, to guarantee your children’s utmost security and safety.

  • Installation –

Make sure to read the instructions and manuals of your chosen convertible car seat carefully before you install it. Also, after installation, it needs to be stable in position, not over 1 inch in moving from side to side or back to front.

You also need to follow the said instructions and guides when you install the seat in a rear facing position. The adjuster and angle indicators must be available and functional. It is advised to only use any other extra equipment recommended by the makers. Otherwise, it is best not to use these extra things without precaution.

  • Position –

The vehicle’s backseat is basically the safest spot where you can set up convertible car seats. The middle portion of the car is the perfect position which can help prevent any dangerous impacts in the event of a car crash. Take note that installing the seat on the front with its air bag activation might pose possible dangers to your children. Try to stay away from the position with the airbag.

  • Type –

Regardless of the weight or height, it is suggested that that your kid is kept in the rear facing mode until he or she reaches 2 years of age. Good thing that there are now several special convertible car seats which can provide you great options of using the seats in both rear and front facing modes.

These have more benefits as compared to the traditional car seats. On the other hand, you can also switch from an infant car seat to a convertible one once your kid turns two years old. The safest seats are those that meet the requirements of the 5-point harness and come with latch system.

  • Usage –

As mentioned earlier, convertible car seats are necessary and important things you should have if you usually travel with your child in your car. But, it is recommended not to convert the car seat to a replacement crib at home since the structure of car seats doesn’t have any special functions like that of normal cribs. Thus, this can cause some negative effects on the development of your child if you use convertible car seats as replacement of cribs at home.

  • Other Important Pointers to Remember –

It is never advisable to dress your child in excessively bulky outerwear which can decrease the function of convertible car seats. The harness straps might not work well and fail to perform properly if your child is dressed with layer after layer of clothes. Also, making the switch to these special seats shouldn’t be made too soon or too late to avoid any problems in the future.
